For PC's: at least Windows 2000, NT works fine also. 95 and 98 and pretty unstable, and can't always handle the latest Acrobat Reader, Although we have users who use both of these and tell us they are fine, we have heard otherwise from others, so we recommend at least 2000. Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and the latest
version of Adobe Reader are required.
For Macs: OS X works best. OS 9.2 works well; however on some less powerful machines like laptops and iMacs, there is a memory leak issue when users go back and forth from the browser to Acrobat, so we have developed a work-around that we talk about in training. The newer Operating Systems are much more compatible with the deep programming used in order for SEIS to be as user-friendly as it is.
Please contact your IT department to request an upgrade in operating system, a new computer is not required, simply an OS upgrade. Safari or Mozilla Firefox for Mac
OS X and the latest version of Adobe Reader are required. We do not recommend using Netscape when using the SEIS system.
As for memory, at least 256k. Of course, when it comes to RAM, the more the
merrier.
Internet Connection, of course, the faster the better. Cable, DSL or T-1 are preferable. Dial up can be done but the sheer size of IEP forms cause it to be slow. |
